Luke Ayling expresses his disappointment about the Middlesbrough vs. Leeds United match and his wish for promotion.
Luke Ayling hopes he could be at tonight’s Riverside Stadium match between Middlesbrough and Leeds United. The right back’s loan from his parent club contains terms that prevent him from playing in the Championship match.

Ayling, who won a promotion with United in 2020, moved on loan to Boro till the conclusion of the 2023–2024 season after leaving Elland Road back in January. Before the game, Ayling made the following statement to Sky Sports: “I love playing football, and I would love to be out here.”
United was coming off a three-game losing streak when they headed to Teesside. After earning just five of a possible fifteen points during the international break, Daniel Farke’s team has dropped to third place in the Championship. Tonight is spent with the boys I’ve been excellent friends with over the past few months.

Since we are having a great run of form, I would really like to continue helping them out. I’m sorry, but I can just watch and hope that this will be an excellent football game.”
“It is quite clear that every team up there is feeling a little bit of pressure and that’s normal,” Ayling stated. “A team that wins every game during a championship season is hardly common. We are aware of its difficulty.

“They are still there, even though I think their decline in performance has come at the wrong time. They are aware that, in a season where we began with perhaps thirteen players heading to Birmingham, they will most likely still be promoted if they earn seven or nine points. A couple of our players declined to play that particular day. We thought it looked very hopeless.

These boys still have a chance to be promoted because they have worked so hard to get back up there. Although there are a lot of influential people and personalities in the dressing room, I’m sure they can overcome their nerves.”
